TIEZA CEO Mark Lapid during the very lively bloggers conference held in Pasig City recently.

When you hear the name Lapid, many Filipinos would easily associate it with “action star” since the movie characters Leon Gurerrero, Geronimo and Julio Valiente have been imprinted to the minds of classic Pinoy movie fans as our own superheroes of sort.

The said personas are roles played by Senator Lito Lapid in the 70s, 80s and the most recent was in 2006 during his acting career.  And just like how he is known in the silverscreen, Sen. Lapid has made some accomplishment as a legislator. Most notably, Lapid is the principal author of the “Lapid Law”, which provides expanded Free Legal Services to indigent Filipinos.

When the campaign period for the senatorial candidates starts for the 2016 national elections, another Lapid will vie for a senate seat as “Leon Guerrero” bids goodbye after his two consecutive terms.

Mark T. Lapid , a former actor and former Governor of Pampanga , is the son of Senator Lapid and wife Marissa and currently works as the CEO of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA). TIEZA is an attached agency of the Department of Tourism (DOT) that designates, regulates and supervises tourism enterprise zones established under Republic Act 9593.

Mark started his political career when he was elected as SK Chairman at the age of 16. He also served as the province’s youth sector representative in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Pampanga. Then at the age of 25, he was elected Governor of Pampanga and made the province as one of the top ten most productive provinces in the Philippines.

Mark will be running under the Koalisyon ng Daang Matuwid and vowed to prioritized tourism in the country if he wins in next year’s election.

“Tourism will create jobs and livelihood,” he emphasized. “I am looking in promoting our country as a destination for agri, educational, sports and medical tourism.”

He has also identified some “untapped” paradise in the country like San Vicente, Palawan that he believes will be a top destination of both local and foreign tourist once developed.

Aside from tourism, Mark also see himself creating laws that will improve the state of peace and order in the country because security of a place is an important factor considered not only by tourist but even by international investors who wants to put up a business in the Philippines.

Once the campaign period starts, he will be busy visiting different parts of the country to campaign to present his platforms and get the pulse of the people to know what important national issues he needs to address.

Will there be another Lapid who will make a mark in the senate? Will find out next year.
