Heads will roll in HBO anytime soon. Well, figuratively this time and not as gory as the ones seen over it’s very popular TV series Game of Thrones (but who knows).
This is because the first four episodes of Game of Throne’s massively anticipated fifth season leaked online yesterday, a day before its premiere (Philippine time).
Insiders say that HBO executives don’t see it as a work of hackers because it appears that the leaks have come from a DVD screener sent out by their company.
“Sadly, it seems the leaked four episodes of the upcoming season of ‘Game of Thrones’ originated from within a group approved by HBO to receive them,” HBO said in a statement. “We’re actively assessing how this breach occurred.”
This seems to be bad news for the network considering it had timed the launch of its new streaming service HBO Now around the release, putting something of a dampener on the arrival of HBO access without a cable subscription.
As of writing, the four episodes have been downloaded on torrent sites over several hundred thousand times, with that number likely to increase in the hours before today’s premiere (9am PH time).
