Catholic Church All Praises to Mighty Corp.

As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, Bulacan-based cigarette manufacturer Mighty Corporation, through the Wong Chu King Foundation (WCKF),   has pledged full support to the different initiatives of the Catholic Church in a community in Northern Luzon.

Due to its unwavering assistance, the Roman Catholic prelate of La Union has commended WCKF, the social action arm of Mighty Corp., for giving top priority to apostolic work and Catholic education in its programs and projects. Bishop Rodolfo Beltran of San Fernando City said that the foundation has donated generously to church projects.

Part of the WCKF’s commitment is funding the education of poor students in Lagawe, Bontoc, including four seminarians. “The parents of these students are low-income farmers producing only for local consumption. You can imagine the positive impact this kind of support has for them,” Beltran cited.

Last year, the foundation renovated the Diocesan Shrine of Immaculate Conception in Naic, Cavite. This was a follow-up to the successful renovation project WCKF has done to the Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Piat Church in Piat, Cagayan in 2012. This is a good sign that Mighty Corp. will continue to fulfill its promise to help the church in a long term.

Auxiliary Bishop Ricardo Baccay of Tuguegarao City also praised WCKF particularly with its efforts to help schools like putting up libraries that are very useful to students. Archbishop emeritus Diosdado Talamayan of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao City meanwhile commended WCKF Chaiman of Board of Truetees Nelia Wong for leading the foundation in reaching out to those who are in need.

WCKF was founded in 1990 with the aim of perpetuating the memory of Wong Chu King, the family patriarch, a philanthropist known for his generosity to the poor. The foundation’s thrust includes scholarship programs to poor but deserving students and raising funds for charitable causes.
