Monsanto Philippines recently opened their facilities in Pulilan, Bulacan for a plant tour for members of the Philippine blogging community.
The event was organized by Ms. Charina Garrido-Ocampo, Corporate Engagement Lead of Monsanto Philippines, Inc., with the purpose of informing bloggers and their readers about the benefits of agricultural biotechnology and to clarify issues related to biotech crops.
Ocampo, spoke about the challenges and concerns in explaining agricultural biotechnology to a non-technical audience. To continue to enjoy public trust and support, those who engage in biotech research “should endeavor to remain transparent and keep government officials and the general public appropriately informed about their research activities,” she said.
“After30 years of research and 18 years of commercial biotech crops, and with more than 1,000 independent studies on GMO safety, there has not been a single documented case of food safety or health issues associated with biotech crops,” she added.
“Monsanto remains transparent and answers queries from the public so that they can make reasonable and helpful decisions,” Ocampo emphasized. “We are proud to provide products that contribute to high-quality crops, a safe food supply and a better life for farmers worldwide.”
