The Wong Chu King Foundation (WCKF), the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Mighty Corporation or Mighty Corp, assures the victims of the devastating typhoon Yolanda that they will continue to send donations and attend to the needs of some affected areas.
WCKF Coordinator Camille Arsenal said that the foundation’s board of directors led by Chairman Nelia Wong Chu King, has approved the release of the funds to the victims, including 78 employees of Mighty Corp and their dependents whose homes were either totally or partially destroyed during the calamity.
Through the years, the foundation has provided assistance to poor and underprivileged sectors and has donated more than P4 million to hundreds of victims of the super typhoon in provinces like Leyte, Cebu, Iloilo and Capiz.
Arsenal pointed out, “WCKF did not think twice after learning of the extent of the disaster. The victims were given enough funds to enable them to pick up the pieces and recover from the disaster.”
WCKF was created in 1990 with the aim of perpetuating the memory of Wong Chu King, the family patriarch, a philanthropist who had provided assistance to the poor and underprivileged in his lifetime. The foundation also promotes education through scholarship programs and raise funds for charitable, cultural and educational purposes.
Based on the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), at least 5,209 killed, 23,404 injured and 1,611 missing in the onslaught of Yolanda which was considered by many as the strongest typhoon in history.
